Nearly every comment concerning men wearing heels tries to portray how limited men's mobility would be should they wear heels. This Danica Patrick's pit crew video obviously debunks this portrayal. The worthy cause of "Walk A Mile In Her Shoes" that brings attention to the abuses women have had to endure spotlights men walking in heels. Men can be just as comfortable and agile in stilettos as women have become. These examples may have been done as spoofs, but they have revealed the fact that men and women are not as different as society tries to promote and high heels really have no gender designation, except in those who are limited society's mis-understanding of the desires people really have.

Men and women both have traits of femininity and masculinity with in them. According to who they are and not their equipment for human replenishment they will develop these traits. Society has denied this fact of humanity because of the social ideals the standards promote. If it weren't for my desire to wear stiletto pumps, I'd probably be in agreement with the standards. However, I'd much rather wear the YSL black patent 6" stiletto Tribute Too pumps with the hidden platforms than the 2.5" high block heeled Jonny Boots.

I also have a pair of these shoes and love them. Like you I find them comfortable for me walk in for long periods. I have a pair of wedges that are not as noticeable with my long pants but I do prefer these over the wedges. I wear them every chance I get.

Sadly, the article perpetuates two stereotypes that are essentially unrelated to the way many of us see high heels, because they credit legitimate interest to only two sources, either those who are short or those who are gay. I'm neither.
The real issue is relative gender evaluation. Our society uses "tomboy" as a compliment and "sissy" as an insult to children, and though the children eventually mature, the attitudes don't seem to. It is "cute" for a woman to wear hiking boots to work, but anathema for a guy to wear stilettos to the office. A woman is praised for adopting some aspects of male behavior (watching sports etc), but so small a thing as following current fashion can make a guy's masculinity suspect.
Summary: is a woman in pants secretly a tranny?
Is a guy in heels secretly a tranny?
How do you know?

You said:
"Who knows who will be wearing high heels in 30 years but it takes a few bold people to start a trend. These early adventurers are often treated poorly for daring to upset the definition of ‘normal.’ "
So true. Women wouldn't be wearing pants and jeans and ties and sportcoats today if women like Amelia Bloomer hadn't braved the slings and arrows of public ridicule for years to establish validity for the style.
Okay, I'm proud to be a pioneer!

I'd send you a pic if I had one, and of course it's no longer in stock at Pliner (or Zappo, or anywhere else I can find). But the heel was like this Harley-Davidson, though less undershot:

If you like a 4" or higher heel but are in a Maximum Stealth frame of mind, don't overlook wedge heels - the silhouette is that of a flat, after all!

Thanks for the comment albinard. I agree, society is not as anti-guy in heels as many would imagine. Just today, I had lunch at TGI Fridays and shopped at CVS in 4" stiletto oxfords. The only reaction I noticed was the manager at TGI Fridays when he opened the door for us. He was head down looking at my feet. Nothing was said and no negative vibes. Just different and unexpected for him.

I think this is mostly what I mean by acceptable to most people. Society not seeing a man in heels as an unusual thing. With very few exceptions, society is indifferent or accepting in my experience.

Can you describe the shoes you were wearing? I find the shoes I wear, mostly 4" or 5" thin or stiletto heels styled after men's designs, are a bit more extreme than many men wearing heels. I wouldn't consider a man in boots or shoes with a 2" block heel anything unusual at all. I wouldn't have any second thoughts at all wearing shoes like that but I like the feel of a higher heel.

Nice summary!
You said "If society considered a man in fashionable heels dressed nicely a totally acceptable thing..."
Society actually does, within limits. A couple of years ago I was in a very high-end clothing store where my wife was shopping. I had on a pair of Donald J. Pliner sporty clog-type mules with 3-inch heels and I was sitting with my legs crossed (full view). A well-dressed guy sat down next to me (his wife also shopping) and proceeded to tell me about some sportcoat sale at another shop, then said, "What Kind of shoes?"
"Pliner," sez I.
"Ah, Donald J. Pliner," he said, then looked closer. "They must be brand new!" he said. "Haven't seen that style yet!"
"Just got them yesterday," I said. "Comfortable right out of the box."
He nodded, then went on to tell me more about the sportcoats.
It was clear that if I was A)able to support upscale shopping for my wife; B)dressed in casual but expensive style (good jeans and cashmere sportcoat), then I must know something about shoes that he didn't.
In the seven years I've worn heels on a daily basis, I've seldom had such a clear acknowledgement of acceptance from a man, though women have been almost unanimous in their approval.
